Technology Showcase 2008-2009

Technology Showcase
This page is devoted to sharing projects completed by students in grades 3-5. These students, along with their teachers, visit the computer lab once a week. All of our research and projects are curriculum driven. Not all classes complete the same projects.  Check with your child to see which ones they created.

Book Covers
Students read a variety of books on their own and in their classrooms. This year students took a favorite book and created a book cover using the program KidPix. Once finished the students converted their drawings to a jpg file.

Multiplication vs Repeated Addition
Third grade students are introduced to the skill of multiplication. They learn that multiplication is repeated addition. Students wrote story problems and then typed them into KidPix. They drew pictures to go with their problems and learned to copy and paste to reinforce the idea of repetition.

The Water Cycle
Third grade students study water and the water cycle. In the computer lab, they draw a picture of the water cycle in KidPix, saved it as a jpg and imported that picture into a short PowerPoint presentation . This presentation is where students share what they've learned.

Students in fourth grade learned about a program called Inspiration. Here they were able to create a graphic organizer for information about themselves. From that graphic organizer, students created a simple PowerPoint presentation. We've included both projects for you to see.

Click here for the Fifth Grade Podcasts
Fifth graders began the year by researching what it takes to be the President of the United States.  Using pre-selected websites, students answered questions about this important job.  They then wrote a paragraph describing what they think are the attributes needed to be a successful president.  That paragraph was recorded as a podcast to share with others.  Click the podcast  link to the left to hear or download our podcasts.
